My name is Jan Matthijs van der Woude. I trained at Amsterdam’s Hout- en Meubileringscollege, a vocational training centre for woodworking, furniture and interior design, where I obtained my diplomas in furniture making and upholstering in 1982.
Being particularly attracted to antiques, I started working with an antique dealer in Amsterdam’s main antiques district, the Spiegelkwartier, that same year. I later set up my own workshop, in 1984, also in the Spiegelkwartier, where I built up my own group of clients.
Forty years later, and having acquired a wealth of experience, I now have a modern, climate-controlled and secure workshop in the centre of Amstelveen, close to Amsterdam, with parking facilities on the doorstep. It goes without saying that I keep abreast of developments in my field, by attending courses, lectures and symposia.
Nowadays, I restore furniture, interiors and fabrics, as well as making entirely new pieces of furniture. I also regularly have items for sale.
